From today, it is forbidden to drive cars registered in Russia without a special permit in Finland.

This was reported by the Finnish customs service, reports Ilta-Sanomat.

It is noted that now a car with Russian license plates in Finland may be subject to customs duty and VAT, after which it must leave the European Union.

However, in some cases, driving a car with Russian license plates is allowed. For example, full-time students, people working under a fixed-term employment contract, or citizens of the EU or the European Economic Area who permanently reside in the Russian Federation will not be subject to the ban. However, they must prove that they legally imported the car into Finland before the ban came into effect.

We will remind you that in September of last year, Finland decided to stop the entry of cars with Russian license plates into the country. In addition, the restrictions will apply to those Russian cars that are already on the territory of the country.

Finland has reportedly closed its borders with Russia completely due to the influx of migrants, mostly from the Middle East, who are trying to cross the border and seek asylum. According to Finnish government officials, Russian authorities are deliberately encouraging migrants to go to Finland in an attempt to destabilize the country. The checkpoints were supposed to open on January 15, but Finland decided to keep them closed.

By the way, in Lithuania, from March 11, cars with Russian license plates will be confiscated. This can be avoided if you change the car’s registration number to Lithuanian or another European Union country before this day, or if you take the car out of the country.
